Jordan — Karashishi & Botan Leg Sleeve
A large-scale Japanese leg sleeve featuring karashishi (foo dogs), botan (peony), sakura (cherry blossom), and cloud work. Tattooed at Ink and Dagger in Roswell, Georgia. This page documents the work as each session is completed.
Karashishi, botan & sakura
Jordan's leg sleeve is one of the most ambitious projects currently in the studio. The composition centers on a pair of karashishi — the guardian foo dogs of Japanese tradition — rendered in turquoise and gold against a deep black background. Botan (peony) and sakura (cherry blossom) fill the composition, providing softness and color contrast against the bold line work of the cloud and wave elements.
In traditional Japanese tattooing the karashishi and botan are always drawn together — the foo dog is said to be the only creature powerful enough to play with the peony without destroying it. This pairing has deep roots in Japanese art and carries specific meaning beyond aesthetics. This is an ongoing project — this page will be updated as sessions are added.
